Jahe atau nama latinnya, Zingiber officinale (L.) Rosc adalah tanaman serba guna: di dapur ia jadi bumbu penyedap, di dunia industri ia jadi minyak atsiri untuk obat dan parfum.  Jahe segar terutama mengandung gingerol dan zingeron. Jika dikeringkan senyawa ini berubah menjadi shogaol yang lebih pedas. Inilah biang khasiat pada jahe.

Banyak penelitian membuktikan gingerol, shogaol dan zingeron punya fungsi farmakologi dan fisiologis seperti efek antioksidan, antiinflammasi, analgesik, antikarsinogenik dan kardiotonik. Efek itulah yang jadi alasan kenapa 10 khasiat berikut ini boleh kita coba.

1. Kalau kita merasa lapar, cobalah kunyah sepotong kecil jahe segar sebelum makan. Ini bisa membangkitkan selera maka dan mengaktifkan enzim-enzim pencernaan.
2. Karena itu (lihat khasiat nomor 1) jahe bisa meningkatkan penyerapan dan asimilasi gizi esensial dari makanan untuk tubuh kita.
3. Jahe bisa membersihkan saluran-saluran sirkulasi mikro di tubuh kita, termasuk gangguan sinusitis yang biasanya muda meradang pada udara sejuk.
4. Merasa mabuk udara atau mual-mual? Kunyah atau minumlah cairan herbal jahe. Lebih jos kalau dicampur dengan madu.

9. Jahe, dinikmati sebagai wedhang, atau dibubuhkan ke dalam teh, dapat mengusir gangguan tenggorokan dan hidung mampat. Bahkan sebelum khasiat itu dinikmati, rasa hangat minuman jahe itu sudah merupakan bonus bagi peminumnya di musim hujan.
10. Terakhir, jahe yang ditambahkan pada semangkuk sup makan malam kita, terbukti bisa membantu kita mudah dan nyenyak tidur. Dan bonusnya: menurut teks-teks kuno jahe bisa berkhasiat sebagai zat aprosidiak alias zat penggenjot stamina seksual.
